Mesostigmatophyceae

Mesostigmatophyceae je razred slatkovodnih zelenih algi^[1][2][3] koji ima samo dvije vrste jednog roda.^[4]

Ranije studije nisu mogle razriješiti položaj vrste, pa je često postavljana kao sestrinska svim ostalim zelenim algama, kao jedan od baznih članova Streptophyta ili što bliže grupi Chaetosphaeridium.^[5][6][7] Studije iz 2000-ih slažu se da Mesostigma, Chlorokybus i Spirotaenia formiraju kladus, sa najranije divergiranim zelenim algama.^{[2][8][9][10][11]}

Mesostigma su jedini poznati streptofiti koji u vegetativnom stanju imaju bičeve.^[12]
